| Thaïs Mazur began her artistic career at a young age studying dance and writing for local newspapers. Her love for both disciplines led her to become a reporter and eventually she founded her own dance company. She has traveled around the world adventuring and working as a radio, newspaper and investigative journalist. Mazur is renowned for her in-depth reporting, including a four-part story on Aborigines and uranium mining and her groundbreaking broadcast of the Three Mile Island nuclear accident. She has written her first book, Warrior Mothers: Stories to Awaken the Flames of the Heart (Rising Star Press.) Currently, she is the artistic director and founder of the Women in Black Dance Project. Thaïs works extensively in collaboration with composers and visual artists to create original full-evening length performances and her work has been performed nationally and internationally. During her 20 years as a director and choreographer, Thaïs has received numerous awards. In addition, she has been sculpting for the past 20 years using a variety of mediums in ceramics, stone and fabric arts. Artist's Statement My interest in art lies in the relationship between natural elements, the human form, gesture and emotion, body and nature. The interconnection between our emotions and our state of being is directly effected by the world we live in. As we enter the new millennium, I feel more than ever, the precarious balance of life in todays world. The future of the planet and the future of all life is floundering under the guise of corporate greed, toxic waste, unprecedented wars and desecration of our environment. From this place, I create, exploring the balance points that many of us face as we live through these uncertain times. My work as an artist reflects our questions, our fears, and dreams as we struggle to maintain a sense of purpose and a sense of hope for the future. |
